Once upon a time Dutton Street simply had backyards facing-on from houses in adjoining streets. With rising land prices, some prudent owners in the streets that enclose Dutton; namely Fermoy, Gregory, Atkinson and Chidlow, have subdivided their surplus yards to create saleable lots.
