The Mildura region is steeped in history as a major agricultural and horticultural centre.
An abundance of quality restaurants and eateries celebrate the magnitude of locally-grown produce while Mildura’s reputation as a wine region is further enhanced by a growing number of cellar doors that are emerging among the ranks of nearly 40 wine producers.

This proud history holds true today as agriculture, horticulture and fruit and vegetable processing continue to grow and significantly contribute to the economy and character of this region.

The Mildura region is also conveniently located in a tri-state area with connections to the National electricity grid, access to flat land and water supply.

Excellent transport connections (via road, rail and air), a ready source of labour along with excellent support services, make Mildura the ideal location for renewable energy development. The first stage of a $420 million large scale solar power station is to be built in the Mildura – Red Cliffs region.

The project is expected to provide many economic benefits, such as the creation of up to 950 new jobs at the peak of construction and up to 45 new direct full-time ongoing jobs.

A large majority of local positions will be filled by workers from within the Mildura region.
There will also be numerous opportunities for local suppliers and regionally based manufacture and component assembly.

When complete, the Mildura solar power plant will be one of the largest and most efficient concentrated solar power plants in the world and will generate carbon free power.
The 154 megawatt power station is due for completion in 2013.
