Vansittart Island with a total of 1500 acres is one of the 52 islands in the Furneaux Group. It is situated in eastern Bass Strait only 7km by boat from Flinders Island which is the largest island in the Group.
Vansittart Island has an historical background. First settled by the sealers in the 1800′s. The windjammer "Farsund" wrecked in 1912 lies 200m off the south east coast. There is 4 km of stone fencing.
This island has been traditionally a farming island, sheep and cattle. It boasts an abundance of wild life, quail, ducks and Cape Barren geese. The waters abound in many varieties of fish. Lovely long white beaches, crystal blue waters. Plenty of spring dam water, good rainfall, currently being farmed with cattle. The potential is there to diversify. Tourism in the area is a growing industry. There is a 6 roomed pine clad baltic pine lined shack. Reticulated power is not connected.
