Agricultural Labour Hire has been a growing industry as farming becomes more consolidated and more workers are needed to allow farmers to meet the demands of large scale broadacre vegetable, stone fruits and berry production.
Turnover for the current year is around the $3,000,000 mark and there are contracts in place with several organisations who need to be certain of the availability of workers when required.
The farmland of northern Tasmania with it fertile soils and abundant water from rainfall and irrigation systems has been supplying large and small vegetable processors for many years. These processors such as Harvest Moon and Simplot and others forward produce throughout Tasmania and to mainland Australia via daily shipping to Melbourne and other ports from Devonport, Burnie and Bell Bay.

GD’s Labour Hire is run by a husband and wife team and was established some 8 years ago and employs from 50 to 170 persons depending on the season and supplies labour all over Northern Tasmania. There are also specially trained planting and spraying crews. The time has come to retire and the owner would stay on as a guiding hand to a new owner to see that this very profitable business continues to expand. The business operates from leased premises in Devonport.
