Nestled below the Snowy craggy peaks of Mt Roland with almost a kilometer of river front on to the dancing waters of the Dasher River, lies a sublime rural haven known as “Whispering Woods”.

Tasmanian Icons abound at Whispering Woods.

Platypus live and play in our river along with serious trout fishing as you sit on the deck above the flow of clear water. The air is crisp cool and so clear and so clear at night you can watch the “Aurora Australis” shimmer. The mountain views are sensational along with the winter snows.

Magnificent Blackwood and Tasmanian Oak trees soar 30 metres into the clear blue sky. The water in the Dasher River directly supplies all the house, garden and farm needs. It is clean, healthy, delicious and never runs dry! Imagine that, your own water supply (no water rates here). Deep soil and green grass abound in the paddocks where hay is cut each year.

The “botanical” like gardens are filled to the brim with hundreds, yes hundreds, of trees from all over the world in this arboreal setting: English Oak, Zelkova, Maple, Birch, Pine, Oregon, Redwood, Cedar, Wollomi, Casawellen, Ginko, Alders, Leatherwood, Blue gums, Cider gums aswell as some Tassie only Huon Pine, King Billy Pine, Celery Top, Myrtle, wattle and Sassafras. The extensive flower gardens are overflowing with colour and fragrance. A huge Natives garden attracts untold birds, to say nothing of the Japanese and Conifer garden that adjoins the “Village”.

The Village affectionately known as “Running Waters” is an incredible group of solid Tasmanian Oak buildings. Each one has a unique and individual purpose normally found within the family home. The majority of the building materials were grown and harvested on the very spot where the village now stands.

The first and largest cottage contains the kitchen, dining, lounge and study/guest room with a super warm wood fired heater; keeping it all snug. The second cottage houses an upstairs loft bedroom and a massive downstairs bedroom/sitting room. Added to this are two more cottages that are self contained bedrooms, both with ensuites. Accommodation for more than 12 people is easily attainable in this unique home.

All the cottages have verandahs and walkways between them creating a most harmonious indoor and outdoor garden infused lifestyle. To complete the village there is a two room cottage complete with a traditional metal open fire and a huge Myrtle mantelpiece, with magnificent solid timber walls and exposed ceilings that is the rumpus room of the village.

Adjoining the rumpus room cottage is a real “boys” work shed, rustic and very functional with bench in place and somewhere to store tools and even make wine. (There are 50 or more established wine grapes planted and producing grapes in the vineyard).

A huge organic garden is a “hand picked” stones throw away from the kitchen door. Its abundant crops of Berries, Herbs and veggies have fed armies of visitors and family. The garden shed here has been designed and built in the traditional manner of a “Highland Trappers Hut”, with its hand split slab walls and shingle roof.

A woodworking furniture gallery use to occupy one of the largest cottages, now there’s a novel idea, making money at home. (Main tourist route to Cradle Mountain at the front door).

A two storey stable building stands 50m from the village, sitting in its own horse paddock. There are good fences and gates to all the paddock areas, great for keeping a few cows, sheep or of course a horse or two. There is also a motorbike track in its own paddock with jumps already well used. Directly across the road are the foothills of Mount Roland. There are many thousands of acres of bush just full of tracks to explore only metres away.

A winter creek flows past “Running Waters”, under its own wooden bridge and over the waterfall in full view of the “home”, meandering through the gardens.

Internet and television satellite dishes are already in place, as are multi telephone lines and underground mains power.

The local community has a Country Fire Station and it also has a wonderful country hall that holds a market and hosts the local community functions that make living here a truly unique experience.
