The Richardson family has enjoyed a long association and successful farming history in the Harford, Moriarty and Sassafras area of North West Tasmania. The vegetable and meat processing companies of Tasmania know their product well!

Crops grown include potatoes – last grown 2002 (1,000 tonnes were grown annually for both McCain’s and Simplot), poppies (for both Glaxo and Tas Alkaloids), peas – last grown 2005 (McCain’s), broccoli, onions, pyrethrum, beans, sweet corn and cabbage seed make up the mix.

In recent years trading beef cattle has produced the main source of income. A turnover of 300 yearlings off cattle is an annual target.
Historically, the property has supported a beef breeding cow herd and a ewe flock for second cross prime lamb production.
Tasmanian Irrigation licences from the Harford Wesley Vale Scheme provide 50ML and there is an additional 113ML held in licenced storage dams. Water sourced from spring fed dams can be gravitated between dams via 6 and 4 inch above ground steel pipes. Hard hose irrigation units provide water from underground hydrants to two 60hp and one 25hp irrigation pumps.

There are 2 brick homes, both of which are set amongst established gardens. Other buildings include a vegetable storage shed 30m x 20m (100 feet x 40 feet) with cement floor (single phase power), 4 bay lock up cement floor machinery shed, 4 bay open fronted machinery/tractor shed. Two stand shearing shed, granary and 2 x 4 bay steel hay barn, sheep and cattle yards.
