Lakeland is a small, diverse rural community flanked by the Laura and Normanby rivers.There are several large cattle properties and banana plantations while other landholders use the rich volcanic soil to grow crops such
as paw paws, passion-fruit, watermelons, and sorghum and a newly established tree plantation.

Lakeland Caravan Park is a quiet, green shady oasis conveniently situated on the junction of the Mulligan Highway and the Peninsula Development Road which takes you to the Tip of Cape York Peninsula
The property is only 80klms south of historic Cooktown and 60klms from Queenslands most extensive Aboriginal Rock Art region of Laura. Port Douglas is roughly a 2hour drive to the south.
The park has Powered sites Safari Tents, Unpowered sites, Overnight Van and Rooms and Camping Area. There is a brand new amenities block including laundary facilities.
As well there is a steady stream of fruit pickers that fill the park cabins all year-round.
