Bundaberg Area
A major agricultural, industrial and commercial hub for Queensland, Bundaberg was previously intensely developed for sugar-cane production. Over the last two decades, a variety of other crops have become very popular and the area has proved very suitable and profitable for macadamia nut farming. As a result there is now a large base of macadamia farms with the subsequent support and interest from industry bodies that follows large production areas.
Bundaberg is growing rapidly with the region seeing huge interest as a tourist destination. It has access to the Great Barrier Reef from the coast and beautiful beaches with volcanic features. Large-scale development is progressing rapidly within the city and the population is one of the fastest growing in Queensland.
Bundaberg supports a number of nearby townships, many of which are defined by their attractive natural features. KB Orchard is located 25 minutes from the city centre, in the sleepy township of South Kolan. This area is popular for its access to both the Kolan and Burnett Rivers, which provides excellent swimming and boating opportunities, including an Olympic standard rowing course.
