DANGAR ISLAND – A MARINER’S PARADISE
Steve Moxham, a prized boatbuilder and director of McConaghy Boats for 25 years, is offering his unique piece of deepwater island paradise for auction.
Some of Steve’s achievements include building several Americas Cup Yacht Race competitors, Volvo Around the World Race yachts, Wild Oats 100 & Wild Oats 60, Alfa Romeo and Windward Passage to name a few.
His passion for individually crafted boats is reflected in his home, and his recently completed studio boatshed features hand crafted timbers including blue gum handrails, blackbutt flooring, Tasmanian blackwood cupboards in a unique woven design, and an epoxy sealed hand carved timber sink from smoked English oak with inlay timbers. The fine workmanship and individual style is greatly admired.
Steve commutes by boat to work at Bayview, but sometimes his 30 minute trip into Pittwater may take a little longer if the fish are biting outside. Otherwise, it’s just a 3 minute trip across to Brooklyn with its cafes & restaurants, and the train to Central is only 55 minutes.
Dangar Island offers city water, phone and internet, and is the first Australian island connected to mainland sewer. It’s a vibrant and artistic community where most residents gather at the island’s alfresco cafe & store for a catch-up, or play bowls at the local club. The ferry runs regularly between 6am and 8pm and 3 water taxi companies also operate on the Hawkesbury River.
Steve’s split level home features an open plan living with enormous circular glass fireplace, huge entertaining deck surrounded by tropically inspired gardens, up to the minute Polytech vacuumed formed kitchen & laundry, 3 generous bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and an enormous workshop under.
