‘Carinya’ is a gracious turn-of-the-century house in Wellington, a pretty town in the Central West of NSW. Its a home that has been renovated to modern standards but has retained its period charm.

The English-bond double brick house of 500sqm sits under a multi pitched roof and the eastern aspect has twin gables and bay windows.

There are formal rooms of generous proportions and period plaster and Wunderlich pressed metal ceilings, marble fireplace surrounds and six working fireplaces throughout.

It is a home large enough to have comfortable room both winter and summer with cool areas to retreat from the summer heat and cozy rooms to keep warm in the chill Wellington winters. Each bedroom is fitted with ceiling fans and reverse cycle air conditioners. The northern verandah has its own reverse A.C. and the games / TV room has a slow combustion fire as well as separate air conditioning. Ceiling fans are throughout the rooms and the southern verandah.

There are four bedrooms plus an office, formal dining. Games and TV room and eat in kitchen. There are 2 spacious verandahs. One open verandah facing the swimming pool and garden and a northern verandah with extra dining facilities and sewing and ironing area adjoining the 2nd bathroom com laundry.

A handsome entrance gives a dramatic sense of arrival to the street frontage and at the back are a double garage and larger workshop and outside toilet (3rd) plus a third car parking shed. This modern innovation of the automatic gates has made the property very private and secure.

The current owners have spent considerable time ensuring the garden adds to the majesty of the property. They have been recipients of 4 garden competition awards, and during the peak of summer the colour is so rewarding. They have also installed a watering system to cover most garden beds and hoses usually cover the lawn areas quite adequately.

Though the house was built in the town, the 3030 sq m ground surrounding the house is planted with shrubbery and in ground pool and full sized tennis court. The property has been the venue for many functions, and the owners have hosted up to 60 for dinners on the southern verandah up to 25 on the Northern verandah and bigger numbers in the spacious garden setting. The areas of the grounds are nearly one acre.

Carinya was built in the late 1800s and early 1900′s. The Cameron family owned it for most of the first half of the 20th century and oversaw 2 major additions / renovations. The Taylor family, then maintained it for approximately 10 years, and then the Mason, Auckett and Glover families before the present owners purchased the house in 1991.
