The current owners purchased the old power station on Hothersal Street, Kiama in the late nineties with the aim of converting this 1920′s industrial building into a home. The project required a substantial rebuild converting it from an industrial building to its current form, a three bedroom, two level home.
The building’s interior was stripped leaving the original concrete, brick and steel structure. The first part of the plan internally required 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and 2 living areas. The exterior large windows and steel balcony off the upper living room were added to enhance natural light, rural, beach and ocean views to the north.
The home is only 300 metres from Bombo beach and a stone’s throw from the town CBD.
The second part of the owners plan were to build the separate double garage, studio with kitchenette, bedroom, shower facility.
The front of the building was enhanced with high privacy walls providing both a barrier to the street and a private courtyard to the main entry. Internal stairs were added to access the upper level and the exterior brick walls were bagged and painted to finish the project.
The land size being just over 800sqm with paved driveway, retaining walls leading to a small rear private garden and mature trees, timber deck and beach shower at the rear of the building round off the significant changes this building has seen. All renovation works were completed to complement the structure of the building and of this era. The property is now offered for the first time in its current form.
The seaside town of Kiama offers a magical setting where coast and country meet. Boasting stunning natural attractions and plenty of rural charm, this idyllic NSW South Coast home is located just a short 90 minute drive to Sydney airport and 30 minutes from Wollongong.
