Named after one of our favourite local surf breaks, Cutlers was designed to comfortably exceed the sustainable housing guidelines at “The Cape” sustainable housing development. The building is 174 sq meters sitting on a 536 sq meter home site, built on single level to allow for access to external areas creating an enlarged Living space. The home has many integrated sustainability features such as rammed earth block walls, polished concrete and external timber feature paneling, zero VOC paints and excellent insulation, double glazing, thermal mass and ventilation combining to achieve an 8.2 star energy rating. The landscape features locally indigenous plantings and raised planters for food production.
Cutlers is fitted out with energy efficient appliances including Sanden heat pump for hot water and Daiken Ururu 7 star split system for heating and cooling, Beko electric oven and induction cooktop and is designed to run without gas or fossil fuels. Water efficient appliances and 10,000 litre rainwater tanks plumbed into the house complement other energy, water and cost saving initiatives. The garage is currently being used as a display area however it is equipped with electric vehicle charge points and a 4.5 kw rooftop solar array. The home is expected to have annual energy costs below $500. Cutlers is a short walk to parks, views of the ocean and a large urban food garden for our residents, as well as local swimming and surf beaches. All homes at The Cape have high speed broadband with fibre optic cable to the home.
