This beautiful Circa 1860 timber and stone cottage has been tastefully renovated and extended with all the original features complimented by the new extension which is matched in perfectly using reclaimed and manufactured materials. The result is amazing and a true compliment to the vendors who took the project on with a vision and achieved this excellent end result.
Julia and Tony stated “we loved the appeal of the 1860′s timber and stone cottage and the size of the block which was a decent size for the dog and kids. Once we began to spend time here renovating, we discovered what a lovely part of Goolwa this is. It has a relaxed and rural feel yet is far from isolated. Both the Main Street and river are within a comfortable walking distance. We often walk to our favourite breakfast haunts, Hectors on the Wharf and Mother Duck on the main street. As far as ambience goes the bird life is fantastic and being able to hear the Paddle Steamer blow her horn on the river and the Steam Train as she heads back to the depot, you get that permanent holiday feel in this home. On New Year’s Eve you can see most of the fireworks from the dining area window. In fact if we hadn’t found another home to renovate we wouldn’t be leaving at all.”
The home is positioned on 1240m2 of land with a large frontage of 72.71m allowing full use of this large block. The home presents as the original cottage from the front with a garden and fencing created to highlight the history of the house but freshen it with a modern vibe.
On entering the home, you can see the attention to detail and the desire to maintain the original feel of the home. The floor plan has been modified to accommodate a true entrance. Either side of this are bedrooms 3 and 4 or perhaps as study as the current owners have it. You then enter the original lounge with a working fireplace. The wood floors are new and are a recycled barn wood timber veneer. This is the heart of the home. The kids or teenagers are catered for with a separate play/living room space as well.
The master bedroom boasts an en-suite and dressing/WIR, and again the attention to detail gives warmth and character to this space. The final bedroom is the oldest part of the home and features a built in loft bed.
The family bathroom includes a cast iron original claw foot bath, screen-less shower, vanity and toilet. All shower fixtures have the luxury of rain-heads and hand held showers and all fixtures throughout are a Matt black finish.
A light filled crossover takes you from the old cottage to the new rear extension. Using recycled materials at every opportunity the rear extension blends seamlessly using materials and a style that aims to compliment the old but provide modern living requirements and practicality. A Belling Free Standing Range cooker takes pride of place in the recycled timber kitchen. All bench tops are porcelain slab tile. It is an amazing entertainer’s kitchen that includes a genuine butler’s pantry with large sink, a dishwasher and lots of open shelving. The dining area seats 10 -12 but when you push aside the movable island bench you can fit 18 -20. This area also opens to the large covered entertaining area, with a brick and stone pizza oven perfect for summer or winter family gatherings.
Shedding on the property is well suited for small to medium business owners with a large 15x9m industrial style shed with a toilet and sink. The 9x6m shed offers secure undercover separate garaging as well. The front of the large shed is fenced an offers a hard stand area for caravans, boats and storage. There is a large 9.9Kw solar system on the sheds.
The side garden offers a safe fenced environment for the kids, pets etc. The lawn has pop up sprinklers. The kids cubby house stays as does the chook yard if you want it. The whole house can run off the two 22.5KL rainwater tanks or mains, your choice. The outdoor shower is hot and cold, perfect for rinsing off river water and washing the dog.
