They don’t build ‘em like they used to!

This quintessential Mossman cottage brimming with local character is a wonderful example of a bygone era of traditional craftmanship.

Built by local Mossman builders, this ‘one owner’ property has been held in the same family since the 1950s. It is constructed from local Silky Oak hardwood that was milled at the former Mossman sawmill, and you can still see the original saw swirl marks in the planks that are in amazing condition given their age.

A classic entry porch come sunroom (enclosed with a combination of tinted windows and louvres) prefaces the entry to the home that is elevated on concrete posts to help maximise natural airflow.

Double leadlight French doors from the porch open into air conditioned lounge and dining area that flows through to the kitchen. The carpet and vinyl currently in these areas cover the
original timber floorboards that feature throughout the home.

Dating back to the 1980′s when the original fitout was upgraded, the functional kitchen features custom built Tasmanian Oak cabinetry. Steps from the kitchen lead to a concrete block extension that houses the laundry and also holds great potential as a multipurpose room, gym, studio, or even extra bedroom space.

Tasmanian Oak also features in the bathroom that was refurbished in 2017 to cater for those with limited mobility.

All three bedrooms are large and feature the exposed timber floorboards, leadlight windows and ceiling fans. The largest of the three also includes air conditioning.

Outside, the easily maintained 647m2 block contains two sheds on concrete slabs – one garage style (5m x 3.4m) and one workshop style (6m x 6m) with power and wide double door access. There is also a covered lean-to at the rear of the smaller shed.

A full external paint was completed in late 2022 and the entire roof was replaced in 2008 (still looks like new)!

Located in excellent proximity to both the primary and secondary schools as well as Mossman’s various facilities and amenities, the home is also a comfortable 15 minute drive from Port Douglas and six minute drive from the Mossman Golf Club.
