The surrounding countryside offers extensive walking and riding through a well-linked network of paths. Lake Macdonald is very peaceful and provides opportunities for canoeing, paddle boarding and fishing. Power boats of any kind are prohibited. 20 varieties of bird life have been seen on the lake including sea eagles, black swans, cormorants, pelicans and kingfishers.
